It’s a crisp fall day here in Pittsburgh. Our international guests are really impressed by the city’s beauty and its mighty three rivers. As someone who grew up here, it’s been an honor to be helping to show them this transformational American city. The people of Pittsburgh have been great, waving at the delegations; their welcome reflecting the cultural and ethnic diversity that is part of Pittsburgh’s history.
Last night at the Phipps Conservatory, a botanical garden which is a net energy-neutral facility, delegations had a good look at Pittsburgh’s (and America’s) future. In planning the Pittsburgh Summit, the White House sought to embrace green technology and use responsible materials produced in a manner that minimizes the carbon footprint of the Summit. Although I’ve been away for twenty years, it’s great to be home, and America can share Pittsburgh’s pride in welcoming the world.
